Where: Launched at the pier in Malibu.

When: Saturday, October 29, 2005; 11:00am

Water Conditions: Mid tide ebbing to 2.5ft,ultra-clear 14 ft visibility, 67°F water temp

Air Conditions: Sunny, wind out of the West at about7 mph, about 75°F

Craft: Hobie Mirage Tandem

Setup: 4" swimbait, orange/brown/flake on yellow jighead. Double curly tail 3" motor oil grub. , 12 lb Ande Tournament Green mono, Flourocarbon leader. New Daiwa Capricorn 3500A spinning reel with 8' graphite rod- maiden voyage.

Catch: 18" Calico, 18" WSB. Both released.

The launch was dry into the water just North of the pier. Saw many fisherman on the pier (GetBenter's?). The water on the beach was semi-clear, maybe 3' to 4' visiblity. Tried for some flatties, but no luck. I think the spawning season is over. Also tried at the end of the pier. There was some fish that showed on the sonar, but no takers. Decided topedalto the spot.

Here the water was as clear as LaJolla. We could see mackeral, sardines, perch and what looked like to be large mullets swimming around. We even saw a 20" sheepshead.I hooked into the calico near the surface and he gave my drag a good test. He put up a good fight- a very healthy fish. The WSB was hooked at around 10' depth and also put up a hard fight. It'll give someone a run for their money when it's 28".

Here's the catch:

We'll be out there tomorrow with Fishersdad and others, hopefully earlier. The time change should help with the getting out of bed part! Company is welcome.
