Who: YakSailor, FishersDad, Thresher, ODH33. Also met at the pier: Fishinfanatic03 & Richard? Sorry-not good with names. I heard that BlackLion and FishHead were on the beach.

Where: Launched at the pier in Malibu.

When: Sunday, October 30, 2005; 8:30am

Water Conditions:5 ft Hightide ebbing, fairly clear7 ft visibility, 67°F water temp

Air Conditions: Sunny, wind out of the West at about7 mph, about 75°F

Craft: Hobie Mirage Tandem

Setup: 4" swimbait, orange/brown/flake on yellow jighead. Double curly tail 3" motor oil grub. , 12 lb Ande Tournament Green mono, Flourocarbon leader. Daiwa Capricorn 3500A spinning reel with 7'-8" graphite rod.

Catch: 15" Rockfish (I think), 13" Sandbass. Both released.

Met up with the crew at about 8:15am. Great bunch of Get Benters - I feel privleged to have had the chance to fish with you guys today. The sun was shining, there was little wind and the waves were small. All had a dry launch. Although the air and water conditions were great, the fishing was not- sorry guys. Anyhow, it was sure fun to paddle out, wet some lines and get some fresh air with the crew.

The bummer is that I broke my graphite rod today while undoing a snag. I grabbed the mid-section and the line at the same time-stupid! I must've told my son 3 times yesterday not to do what I did today. It is now 4" shorter and I am a little smarter.

We did manage to hook up with these 2 today:

Some kind of rockfish? caught near the bottom at 12ft:

and a sandbass caught near the surface:

I'd be interested to know how the surf fishing was this morning?

Great times fellas! Although I got the big ole' skunk, it was fun testing out the yak. Looking forward to doing it again.

Sounds like you guys had a good day out there. Sorry photoguy and I had to miss it, but work obligations come first. Even though not much fish were caught it is still nice to get together with fellow members. Photoguy and I will be out on our yak on Thursday, we hope to see some of you.

Had a great time out there. Thanks for letting me use the extra yak Kent!. I took a big skunk like Frank but still had a blast. I am ready to go again any time. I had an almost dry day got wet on the way in bad timing by me. next time i know what to look out for.
