carpenteria reef 6/25

just a quick report since there isnt much to say!

hit carp reef on the yak with rhyno and his son eric yesterday. i arrived around 6am and put in a call to rhyno. with him still over an hour away, i decided to go for my first solo surf launch..... rather comical i must say, i definitely need more practice doing that! after i finally made it in the water i worked the kelp for at least an hour before rhyno arrived for one strong bite but came unbuttoned after about 10 seconds. after rhyno arrived we went into the deeper kelp where rhyno managed one small sandy. after getting sick of getting my big hammers outta the kelp i decided to try frozen squid. got one small rockfish to at least break the skunk.. we all decided to head in around 11:30 since there were no fish wanting to play and eric's ass was beginning to hurt from the kayak seat..... after a few landing pointers from rhyno we headed in..... dry landing for all of us, although mine tried to turn ugly, but using rhyno's advice i was able to fight it off...

definitely a fun time and i look forward to fishing whit rhyno again, i still have a lot i can learn from the master yakker!!!!

Good job on not dumping it. Pretty ballsy to do a solo surf launch.

Rick,

Nice job buddy! Your report brought back memories of my first beach launch which was also at Carpinteria. I like how you just went for it. That's how we learn and gain confidence.

Everyone wants to move your way, and you go in the opposite direction

Skunk, great job today. Glad we got to hook up and do the yak thing.
Yes it has cooled off in the area, but hey maybe the Salmon will finally show up in the inshore. I think a look outside say from 70' or deeper may be the ticket, I did not get to have a look see at the deeper water but think it would be a better place to head to then the inner reefs. We edged the outside of Carp Reef, and worked some channels back into the lee of the reef, fish on the meter, but not much jumping the plastics. Would make live if you can find it, and drag it out. Threshers have been in the area too. Call or PM me if you want to go offshore and look around.
