Del Mar 6/26 mixed bag!

Got back to my roots today and decided to paddle the longboard out at lunch for a little board fishing. Went to my favorite spot in Del Mar. NEVER fished. Too far out for the shore guys (not that there ever are many) and too close in for the boaters, and too much of a pain for the kayakers to get too.....

Anyway, it was just me, the longboard, a bass stick and 4 plastics. Paddled out with the rod in my teeth and set to work just past the surfline. Fishing from a longboard allows you to set up the perfect presentation by kick/thrusting backwards creating a perfect fluttery action on a swimbait, right down in the zone.

The area is mixed reef and sand. Anyway, the fishing was excellent for about 35 minutes, nearly WFO on calicos and sandies. Must have landed 10 in a half an hour. Two of the calicos were solid blokes in the 3.5 range. For some reason, these shallow water calicos seem to have the most rich colors, deep golden sportcoats on all of them. The current died and so did the bite....got a few short bites and one very short WSB on my way back in.

Sorry no pix. Next time I'll wear a backpack and put my cam in a dry bag....we'll see if that's feasible!

Lots of those really little short C bass lately!

Must be the released ones paying off.

Nice! That is some cool fishing. I swam out on the reef in Kauai with my snorkel and fished the spots with big jacks. I got alot of water in my reel and now i really regret it...but it was fun! LoL imagine hooking a big batray on a longboard...hold on tight!
