New Prowler Big Game mayden voyage report,Malibu.

I oppted to paddle at Topange, hooked up with Kojak and fellow kayak guide Mark Pierpont. Hit the water around 6, no sweat getting through the shore break, it did take a small wave over the bow that slowed me but not much else. Headed south to try for butts and bass, south of the launch we found a little shallow area 9', holding bait and some marks. First to fall was a small sandie, ate a 4" Fishtrap in a brown bait pattern. Few casts later I get bit big. Fish takes off, settles down and the fight is on. 15 minutes later I see a beautiful BSB, darn it but ok. Boga grip and the lure pops off, nice. 18 lbs., quick photo and back in the water. One more grass rockfish on the inside. Decide to head up coast, and pick away at a few stones and marks on our way up to Seal Rock. Prowler Big Game handled well, though slower than my Prowler 15, the stability and dry ride are a plus. Found a reef near Seal Rock, and proceeded to catch and release everything, even a few that sounded like this... ziiiiiiiinng-pow! The two break offs were on straight Power Pro 8 LB, 1 one was most likely a T-shark, second one felt like a WSB or another BSB. Landed a few 18-22" WSB, 3 butts to 21-1/2", Cabezon, Snaged a Sargo, calicos, sandbass, and a few more rockfish. Wind came up fast with some decent white caps, on the drift chute no water got into the cockpit while drifting, I tend to T off the drift shute at a middle position. Off the water around 1:30. Good action, had to work a little to find the biters but another great day on the water.Hey Mike, how did the photos of the BSB come out? I am sure you got the money shot! TL Rhino
