West Goleta Beach - July 29, 2006:

Ooops - I meant July 30, 2006:

My nephew Brian wanted to go back to the beach and boogie board which turned into my ticket to go float tubing again. Twice in one weekend! I don't think that's happened since my son was born

Fished from about 11:30 until 2:30 pm. I started out by Campus Point looking for seabass or calicos. After a few minutes I got bit and landed a barely legal calico. A few casts later I get bit again. Intially it felt pretty small but then it grew and the fight was on. A couple minutes later I see a nice flattie coming up and soon landed my biggest halibut from my tube. It was 35 inches long and weighed 16 pounds - matching my surf fishing record in weight but was shy by an inch. After fishing that area a little more for nothing I kicked back over to the shallow area where I caught some short halibut yesterday and got a nice 4 pound calico followed by a 24 inch halibut. All fish were caught on a 5½ inch Rainbow Trout colored Big Hammer.
