Well, after many fishing quickies on my lunch break, I finally managed some of the right kind. Launched at LJ shores at 11 to a beach FULL of yellows, people had stringers full of 8-20#ers.
The wind was already on it, so I rigged light and paddled out to where I could see Point Loma and started working the 6X Jr. 3rd Cast and I'm on...bounced the little guy and threw him back.
Ten minutes go by, and I'm on again, another rat. At this point, 4 power boaters have motored up to where I'm fishing with one practically sitting on my lap...they get their baits in the water and he goes instant bendo and a dog comes in for the kill on what was a nicer sized yellow.
On the way back in, I trolled the heavy iron and 20 strokes shy of the reserve buoy, and my rod goes bendo is pinned in the holder and I start going backwards!....ended up being a firecracker which was released as well. I hope that releasing them translates into some mojo for tomorrow's AM meat hunt run. I'll be looking for their mommies. Back on the beach at 1:30
Sorry no pix....this was a one rod one jig one paddle outting. The moral of the story: if you are a kayaker and you haven't caught a yellowtail from your small plastic boat. Now is the time, call in sick and make the drive.
