Carbontex Drag Upgrade for Torium 14 & 16

I just replaced the stock drags on both my toriums (14 and 16). I won't be able to get out on the water for a little while but I'm anxious to see how the reels perform. Has anyone done this to their reels?

I had to leave the stock drag washer (#0419) on my 14 because the carbontex was too thin. I got a grinding noise which I think came from the drive gear sitting too low.

After I threw the stock washer back in the grinding was gone...anyone experience this?

I'm sure Mr. Alan Tani knows exactly what's going on in there

yes! i've noted this issue on the trinidad/torium 16/20/30. the 14 is probably the same, but the id x od dimensions of the washer are probably different. what i do is take the penn ht-100 drag washer from the high speed 4/0 senator 113h (part #6-113h) and install it under the gear instead of the carbontex washer. i'd notified smoothdrag.com a month or two ago, so i'm sure the new sets are fixed. if you local tackle shop can't get you the proper drag washer, or if dawn at smoothdrag.com can't help you, then send me an e-mail and i can get a pair of washers to you. i will need the dimensions of the washer in mm for the id x od x th. thanks! alan

...so true.

Hey Alan is there a website that has a comprehensive list of your teardowns? I've seen them all over the place (allcoast, bloodydecks, pierfishing etc.) and I was wondering if you have your own website or something. very informative articles.
