With all this talk about lings and rock fish i was thinking about baits for rock fish. I like to use sand dabs and lizzard fish for ling bait and squid for RF bait. What does everybody else use?

Thanks

By far squid is the gaurentee producer for rockfish. Literally everytime I dropped down with a strip of squid yesterday I was hooked up. They arent the greatest of fights though. You feel a little hit and set the hook, thats it. You real them up and they are dead with their air bladders sticking out of their mouth.

Lingcod will give you a run for the money. They really fight good all the way up to the top. The best bait for those I believe is live anchovy or sardines if you have them. The more livley the bait, the better. They get all excited and just pounce on it.

Awesome!

Also, I forgot to mention...

A friend who I was fishing with yesterday caught a nice size lingcod on a red rockfish. He had hooked it and was reeling it to the top when the lingcod slammed it.

That happens a lot. A ling will hit a fish that is being pulled up, the first fish sticks his fins out, and voila! Two for one! A ling is truly an amazing fish.

I second the squid advice for being the best rockfish bait. I have also caught them on cut chunks of fresh dead chovie.
