Arrow Kiddy Rod Charity Fishing

OK - Who is interested in fishing Kiddy Rods in a Charity Fishing Tournament???

Stickerguy wants to do a small event first as a trial which may be a good idea and then we go all out.

So I say we give this thing a shot and try to make it a HUGE DEAL.

Here are some quick thoughts:

St. Jude Children's Miracle Network
  • Let JJ work with the landings and see if maybe we can even get the trip comped - meaning the regular fee for the trip would be donated by the boat/Captain/Landing or at least the profit to the Charity as well
  • Those fishing can get sponsored by others - work buddies give you 10 or 20 bucks to fish the tournament - all this also goes to the Charity
  • Of course the Jackpot goes to the Charity
  • Awards can be given for most sponsored fisherman. biggest fish, littlest fish, etc., etc., etc.
  • Get the radio coverage (as mentioned in the thread)
  • Get newspaper coverage (local papers)
  • Get TV coverage (work with Gordo Grande on this one)
  • Get coverage in WON (take pics and a member do the write up)
  • Maybe corporations donating over 250 dollars can get their names mentioned and on a banner that maybe we can get stickerguy to make for us (at cost - maybe)
This is what it is all about - FUN and a GOOD CAUSE

The kiddy poles would show that the focus is on having a good time and giving to the Charity in the name of the kids - IT JUST WORKS

Lets hear everyones thoughts and ideas. This could be way cool, a lot of fun and for a good cause. The ONLY thing I see about it that is rough is that I can not make it out to California to participate - what a bummer...

Looks like we will have to come up with some gear guidlines as well as the tournament rules heheehe

Remember it is all about the kids and givening to a GREAT CHARITY

The gear will have to be modified a bit or you will not have enough line to get down to the fish.

Hey how about one of those rods that shoots the bait out - yeah

As I mentioned in the other post, I will gladly donate a few pages of my magazine to the cause. So long as I have at least 1 month notice, I could get it to people intime to offer up donations and sponsorship. As far as the actualy trip goes, I am TOTALLY in with my Star Wars pole I'm bidding on!!! I may have to make a few mods to get it to have enough line though, LOL....Man, I can't wait. I could also get flyers out to a few of the local hospitals since wifey is an RN at County, and her friend is a pediatric nurse at St. Johns...

I Vote, The bigger the better...

wow, what did I start here...lol

It actually does make real good sence. The comedy of grown adults, fishing with kiddy poles for a cause outside of ourselves is priceless. This is actually a community effort fundraiser, and a big thumbs up for the fishing community as well. Publishing and producing agencies will be all over this to cover the story of how fishermen and women all came together for one single cause. To help our nation's children in desperate need, and to help save thier lives. By using the kiddy poles, it not only adds MUCH humor, but symbolizes that it is for these children. Sure the spin offs of that "warm fuzzy feeling" and having one MAJOR good time in the process, laughing at eachother at how silly we look, ect.. (not to mention the jokes that will come from this I'm sure ) But think of how it will involve those outside the community as well. I myself, am going to give a high ranking friend of mine at Amgen a call to sponsor me as soon as this is for sure. I will be asking for no less than 50k, and I will probebly get it. Tyco would probebly supply all the fishing rods needed, and I know how to contact the C.O.O.

Adversly, I would not reccomend changing the kiddy poles, other than to upgrade line. Slapping a high dollar or other reel on these would take away from the authenticity of it all, and kinda make it look like we were cheaters, in a weird kinda way...

Going nationwide-

MOST DEFINATLY! once the platform for this is set, forward it to every fishing club in the states, if that is possible. They would react just as positive as we have. All fishermen LOVE good humor. (At least all the ones I know do..lol) I don't think I know a captain or landing in the fleet who could charge full price for something as goodwilled, espessially if they know the publicity it will bring them, their boats, and the landings. No Way. I would bet that once the word got out, they would be stepping up to take a number to be involved. All it takes is communication and good planning.
