Damn thats whats wrong with this world... Self esteem... My what happend to not gettng on the team... Then you had a reason to try harder for the next year.... Oh well let them play there PS3 and crap!!

YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO BEAT THE SH...T OUT OF YOUR KIDS BUT NO....... THATS WHY YOU HIT THEM IN THE HEAD...NO BRUISES

"There's nothing like sticking a dagger into a youngster's self-esteem the first season he plays the sport by letting him know that he's not good enough or considered worthy to be part of this elite group of teammates. That's not the message we want to send to children who are already less active and more obese than any previous generation in history."

What a shame. There are plenty of non competitive leagues out there already, no need for mandating that much control over the competitive leagues.

you win some you loose some thats life. they are setting these kids up for failure. if and when i have kids they will play sports they will feel the heart break of a lose and the thrill of victory.

i agree with dan, also this guy engh needs to go to one game of allstar so he can see the difference, some of these kids make it into the big leagues, also great way of keeping them out of drugs and stuff,i know it has worked for me and my kids who have been in basaball all their life.

How do you want to bet that the guy who wrote the report was either:
a) never picked for the all-star team when he played T-Ball.
b) his kid was never picked for the all-star team.

You have to be able to lose, that's baseball. The batting percentage of a great player is .350 That means they fail .650 of the time. There's more failure than success.

If they can't take it, maybe everyone should be allowed a single for effort. But wait, then how would the pitcher feel??? (sarcasm intended)

I like the idea of an all-star game. I'm a big fan of the game in general. I even bought baseball gloves, catcher gear and batting tees for my classroom. If a kid hits a HR, they get to keep the ball.

sorry to open this back up but this is the sissifying of our youth at work. You work hard you are rewarded. In this instance the reward is being selected to the all-star team. If a kid wants to be on the all-star team and didn"t make it this year. He/she should be motivated to try harder the next year and claim his/her awards based upon his/her efforts. Should kids that make the honor roll not be rewarded or recognized because it hurts the self esteem of students that didn't no. life has consequenses both good and bad and I feel cancelling the game upsets the learning of that reality. This generation of youngsters is ruined. When i played ball you either performed and balled with the ballers or you rode the pine and get in the game with a minute on the clock. Kids must learn that EFFORT leads to sucess.

Did they give each kid a participants trophy, a pat on the back, and a speech on how winning doesnt matter but just trying does? Ridiculous.
