newell reel repair
Hi guys,
Anybody out there know where I can send some 15 year old Newells to be rebuilt/repaired. I remember back in the early 90's, I sent them to the factory and there was a flat fee to repair regardless of what was wrong.
Any info???

I don't think Newell does the free service any longer.

But Batty knows a thing or two about getting them back in tip top shape.

There's also guy in Glendale who is the local guru on Newells. (Oops, just saw that Moogie's profile and Massachusetts (sp?); Glendale, CA wouldn't be helpful). On the east coast, there's a guy on the Noreast board that does wonder's with Newells. If you send the reels to Newell, I think there's a service charge.

Moogie.......don't bring those Newell's to La Paz the fish down there will blow those reels up!

Best two guys I have dealt with are in California. Easy to ship the reels to them. I do it every year.
Michael Grossman (AKA Hawk) did an awesome job with my Newell ( and other reels). You can find him on the AC boards. He also has written a number of articles in PCS. Great guy/ Great work. If you want his address, PM me.
Also, Alan Tani does an outstanding job on reels. Look at his tutorials on this board and you might be able to fix it yourself. If not, he will do a great job for you as well. Alan is a member of this board and is a friend.

I highly recommend both.

Can't say I've personally sent in any reels to the below mentioned reel guru's but I've read and used their tutorials to take apart and maintain my own equipment. Both are highly recommended by many guys across the fishing boards.

I do ok on reel but on newells I would check out reelman on hte ac boards. I heard he is good with newells and he even made a 533 which is a narrow veriosn of the 553

Hawk is definitely the man on reel work. Jerry Downey posts as Reel Man on various boards and is the Newell guy.

EC Newell Man posts on Noreast if Moogie is from Mass./east coast.

You can't go wrong with any of these guys!
