Vertical Jigging was even introduced to the States in the early 90's but was not accepted well at the time.
The items on the US market are still limited and in their infancy which I do not understand fully. Maybe because there was no real demand for it so why have such gear wasting finacial resources sitting on shelves. I think maybe that is the same reason why we have not been flooded with the higher quality gear available overseas as it is pricy and designed for one purpose only.
Most of our braided lines are still only 4 weave (maybe for cost) rather than 8. Even with Shimano their overseas versions of gear is superior to what they offer to the US market but it is also more expensive.
The market overseas have perfected the art and the gear for it so maybe with its popularity now we will get more of the better gear available here in the US.
DrAngler and I are planning to do a number of Vertical Jigging ONLY (NO BAIT) Charters (maybe one yet this year and a number next year)

Defintly a lure! ICEE and I have had a few no bait charters when we just didn't feel like paying for it and have done very well, sometimes we apply some bait butter on it for scent but, hey whatever will work!

I dunno much about it, (BUTTERFLY JIGGING) but I was at the slide earlier in the year and there was about 15 boats all hooking fish at a slow pace (1 every 30mins). but the one boat that was jigging had 1 or 2 going at all times. I was pissed and tied a megabait on and hooked one.
My theory is when they want a jig they want a jig, but when they ony chew the bait I dont care what you throw.

Check out Angler's Pro Shop in Brooklyn NYC.... Randy has all the top notch Vertical Jigging gear, and Popping Gear... Rods, Reels, Lines, Jigs, Poppers, Stick Baits etc... Most of it brought in from Japan, as well as his own line of rods, Tuna Max, one of which accounted for the latest Dogtooth Tuna World Record, a fish of 104,5 Kilos, caught on the Tuna Max S57XXH, Shimano Stella 20000, 100lb Braid and a Vertical Jig....fight time of 30 minutes..... Anyone who has tangled with even a small Doggie knows what a feat this is... No harness, just flat out brute strength...
Fish was taken off Rodrigues in Mauritius in the Indian Ocean....Angler was Christian Mercier....
Vertical Jigging works.... period!
