If you really want to get some distance, you would be much better off with a lighter tip rod or even a glass rod. A fiberglass rod will load up a lot better than a terremar and give you a lot more distance. With respect to you trying to throw live bait with it, in my opinion, you are not going to want to throw live bait much farther than you already are throwing it. I don't like to heave bait that far for two reasons. 1. I don't want to throw my bait off the hook and 2. I don't want my live bait smacking the water and making my bait all stupid for the first few minutes it is in the water. What I do want is a nice smooth lob cast that doesn't destroy my bait.

#2. When you are throwing plastics and spoons and whatever else you are throwing, you might want to try having the lure farther away from the tip. I think you should try having the lure between 3 feet from the tip, to as far as all the way down to your reel. This is a “pendulum” type cast and helps to load the rod up. Ask a deckhand to show you what I referring to or there is also a video you can get. Inside Sport Fishing has a video called something like “Advanced Casting” You can order it off their web site at http://www.limboland.net/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=ISF&Product_Co de=ISF-ADVANCEDCASTING-DVD&Category_Code=Instructional&Product_Count=2 . It has a pretty good demonstration of what I am talking about. When you start experimenting with different distances away from the tip, you will find a sweet spot that works best with that rod and the lure you are working with at that time. Focus on getting some bend in that stiff terremar and you should start getting some distance in your casting. Hope this helps…

Just got the DVD/s
Super FAst Shipping / ok lets see if it will help

Thanks

You'll like it. But if you don't, please don't hate me...

Just take his advice for tossing live bait and apply it to hucking irons, and the like, by really put some muscle into it. You'll improve distance with both live bait and artificials.

[quote=Flipper;325551]oh yeah...

about the custom rod.

Not sure who's doing it for you but $150 sounds too cheap. A good rods parts can cost more than that.. and a good builder is going to want something for his or her time. So.. not sure, but sounds way too cheap. $250 and UP sounds more like it... components and workmanship go a long way.

Man, if I could get them for $150, I could quit building my own.

it was interesting , nice info

as some of you stated, no need to cast so far at all in some cases

did tray the way his casting / it did "work" - i just can't cast w/ so much line out / to hit my hand as his showing. i limit that to 2-1/2 ~ 3' at most.
the way his casting and holding his hands and rod and reel, it 's bit "unorthodox" for me, now i need to get me a new Tennis Ball and start practicing

at the same time i place an order for 4 other DVD's
the one Custom Rod Building by Doc Ski
Wow - didn't know that sooooooo mcuhhhhhh is involved w/ building a rod now it makes sens

Welll / you learn something everyday
Thanks for your help / Thank you All
