Berkley Trilene Fluorocarbon...
Has anybody tried the new 100% fluorocarbon Trilene yet? You can get up to 25# line on 2000 yard spools. Just wondering because it is not too much money if you use it as a topshot instead of filling up your whole spool. For instance, 2000yds = 199.99. When you do the math, your looking at about $10 to get a 100yd top shot on a reel with spectra backing. What do you think?

Thanks for the links Robert. I love Tackle Tour. I read their reviews all the time and have bought gear after there was a good review on their web site. However, I just want to make sure I am clear. IMO, Berkley Vanish and Transition are junk. They are talked about on Tackle Tour and I just don't like them. Lost too many fish on them. I am refering to the line that is in the link below. Unfortunatly, Tackle Tour has not done a review on this line yet. I keep looking for it but I haven't seen a good review yet. The advantage I am seeing here is that we can now get large spools of Fluorocarbon line in test up to 25#'s. When you buy in bulk like this, it seems to make sense to do an entire topshot in fluorocarbon instead of a mono topshot and then a fluoro leader. I actually just got a 200yd spool of 15# to put on my new 300TE to try on some Calico on Thursday on the Island Tak. I'll let everyone know how it turns out.

I actually have this stuff in 10# on my Curado 100D right now.
My past experiences with running a full spool of 10# fluro were aweful. I never wanted to use the stuff again. Needless to say, I was skeptical when Bearfish gave me a spool of 10# and said to try it. Well, I did just cause i trust my big furry friend named Bear and I didnt want the line to go to waste.
Honestly, Im pretty impressed with it. I havent had any of the problems I had when I ran the other stuff I used. It seems to be very strong as well. I cannot really attest to its visibility in the water though. The stuff feels almost like mono coated with fluro. Im not sure how it is in the heavier line class, but i can say i like it in 10#.

Honestly creeky, it fishes just like 10# mono. Except it is a bit tougher to break (or bite through when tying knots in a hurry).
It really fishes completely different then other fluro that ive used...thats why im almost thinking its not pure fluro...

Hey yerman-
I actually use the trilene 100% fluoro a lot!!.....I have used the clear and the green for trolling and throwing swimbaits in the delta and napa river. To tell you the truth it worked awesome for what I was using it for....I was using p-line fluro-clear one day and couldnt get a hit trolling for stripers and then used my set-up rigged with the Trilene fluoro and knocked em dead....I feel very confident when I use the Trilene Fluoro now...
on the other hand, I was fishing clearlake two weeks ago with my buddy and he happened to be drop shotting using Trilene100%fluoro and lets just say he almost threw his Rod over board because his line kept twisting up since he was using a light spinning set up for dropshotting....
I was reading your post about what reel for calicos...I think the trilene fluor would be perfect for that calcutta 300 te 15 lb line if your were throwing swimbaits...it cast really well........bye the way its really strong line....

Cool. Thanks man...I just figured that there are so many people that swear by fluorocarbon leaders when fishing on or offshore, but I hate having an extra knot. Plus, that leader material is expensive. I say if if the line is nice, and not much more than mono, why not use an entire topshot of fluorocarbon instead of mono with a leader and an extra knot.
