Avet 8.0 reel

I won two avet reels in a marlin tournament over in kona and the gear ratio is 8 to 1. For the average charter angler they are to hard to reel a fish in. You really have to drop the tip to get a crank. I have used them for skip jack tuna and small ahi at the buoys and stuff but people have trouble with them. What would you use these reels for??
I was thinking of using them for bait and switch. Get a spear fish on a lure with no hooks and switch it to a bait on the avet with like 2-16 pound line or what ever record i am after. I would be doing a lot of baking up to the fish and I guess I could retrieve a lot of line fast as long as the fish is on the surface.
what do you think???
