Quaga Mussel detecting dogs!

On the way out of the show on Friday I met a very nice lady Game Warden who had a dog that had just finished training for Quaga Mussel detection.

She was very excited about the new program and indicated that there were other things, like abalone, that the dog could detect also. She also indicated that some of the lakes were inquiring as to how they might get mussel detecting dogs.

I think this is good news. It's certainly more intelligent than checking for water in bilges and holds. Water is a silly way to try to determine whether mussels are present. Mussels can live out of water for hours between tides. Drying off a boat right before you left for the lake, could get you in, while mussels are present. While cleaning a dry boat with no mussels present could have you turned back. I guess that, nobody would fish, on a rainy day.

you got a point! it would prolly be cheaper in the long run for the lake to train a dog for that purpose then to lose business because someone has a wet boat that doesnt mean it is holding the mussels
