Build a front gangplank, buy a harpoon and go in search of.

I am not sure if anyone successfully baited in a sword last year, did anyone here of anybody going it. I know of a few that tried but they were just blow off by the fish.

The best way to catch a sword is to trailer your boat to Ft Lauderdale, before dusk go out 23 miles on a SE heading, drop 1 rigged dead squid down 300-500 feet, and another at 200 or so, preferably on a 80w reel. They are there, and you will catch them. Thats about the closest place to Santa Rosa Island I know of to catch swords regularly on rod and reel. Otherwise, August, Sept, Oct, Nov, they can be found behind Rosa, but they do not eat during the day on the surface.

Nope, did it once, and I ain't doing it again. The fishing for the swordies is awesome, but that is the longest damn trip. We got a few swordies, but what a pain in the ass to drag that boat 2800 miles.

Baited a Swordie at Cat 2 years ago, Lit up like a light bulb. Didn't want anything except a 10" fly I had on a 12 weight rod but did'nt go. The most beautiful fish I have ever seen in the water. Check the regs for swords though. I know no gaffs on board if your not commercial. Weird regs for these guys, check them carefully.
Good Luck
Kel

Gaffs are A-OK. Harpoons are not unless you have a commercial license. You may not have a harpoon on board if you have a marlin or a swordfish on board.
