Help us with island fishing

We have been having 30 knot wind up in our area so we are coming down to the Channel Islands for a few days. Where is it better to launch SB or Ventura? Where is the best place to get bait. We will sleep on the boat out there. Which island is the best to fish? Looking at coming down 4th of July as we have way to many Motorcycles coming to town!

Of the two, I'd pick Ventura to launch. Bait is right there at the fuel dock. Santa Cruz has the most options. Pedro Point is about 18 miles from the harbor. Smugglers Cove is a very good anchorage but,,,,,,4th of July weekend will be a zoo no matter where you go. Depending on the wind and swell, check Yellow Banks on the back side (south) of Santa Cruz. Front side (north) check out Chinese. These are both on your charts. Make sure you know where the closure areas are. (Scorpian and all the front side of Ana Capa. Good luck and let us know what happens.

No Parking

If you were going to come anytime but the Foruth I'd say SBs a pretty good pick, but I wouldn't come up here on THAT weekend.Parking is VERY limited, and it's first come first serve. If the lot is full they send you to park w/your trailer at City College Parking lot.I've seen dummys park thier cars in that lot and block you in,plus everyone who owns a boat in a 50 mile area will be there that weekend. Some VERY irresponsible boat operators seem to show up that weekend.Rosa, and Miguel is closer, and has a lot of really good spots that don't get fished as much due to the weather, but like the other poster stated you should know where the closure areas are.
Good Luck.
MJ

GPS numbers for them California Department of Fish & Game, Marine Life Protection Act Initiative

Personally I will be a Rosa near eagles nest to anchor and would say hit Rosa if the weather is good enough to do so. It has been hit and miss out there for use to. Mother nature has been on a hormone rage lately so the water has been rough. I would launch out of Ventura or Channel Islands with CI having better parking but depending on where you are headed it could be a little closer to your destination. At least Rosa has some really nice sized rock fish if the exotics don't want to play.

Thanks guys for the info. We may not go 4th weekend, you are right it will be a zoo. Our truck and trailer is really big and hard to park. My hubby just got shipped out to fight fire as an independent contractor with the state, I don't think he will be home by the 4th. So we will probably go during the week when he gets back!

You may want to rethink where you are going to anchor up.

PM me for details if you wanna catch a seabass

Why? Eagles nest is nowhere near the closure area.

Drew, for spending the night, your best bet is to tuck in at Johnsons' Lee.
