malibu sport fishing 37 wsb all released...why?

Since I just found out and its too late for me to call and ask, can anyone give me an explanation as to why 37 white seabass were all release at the malibu sportfishing? they also caught 50+ calico and released 25 of them. Is there something I'm missing?

If you listen to the audio report, he sais the fish were short.
NOW the real question, if this is a knowledgeable capt. he should know that after the first few caught, this school is nothing but shorts. Why not pick up and move on.
Instead he allows his customers, to catch 37 fish all of which are very highly unlikely to survive.

Its stunts like this why fisherman have bad names.

I have heard both that they tend to get tired easy and don't recuperate. Handling them to get them unhooked can really traumatize them and kill them. Others say that is pooh and that they are just like any other croaker and you can't kill them with an axe. I don't know enough to say either way just go with the flow.

They do tend to school in close sizes so if you hit a school of small fish the chances a bigger one is in there are really slim. Now not sure if it is the same captain that has been their all along but so far I haven't heard or seen anything good coming from that landing. Again no first hand knowledge just hear say.

I dont have the EXACT MEDICAL explaination, but it is basically a weak air bladder and weak internal "stuff" that causes internal bleeding. A rule of thumb on a "safe release" for WSB is 30' of depth....but not recommended. Deeper is a death warrant.

Yes they swim away....someone shot in the gut can walk out the door and out of view, also....but the internal damage will happen out of sight while you are having a celebratory adult beverage for releasing a fish.

from what ive seen they dont do really well after a rough or semi rough release. In aperiod of 2 wks bout 5 yrs. ago we left 2 or 3 floating where we were fishing and it looks and feels bad thats for sure.
