After reading the local fish counts with lots of wsb,we picked up a multiday permit.
Left Santa Barbara harbor about 7:30 friday night.Got to the spot at dark thirty.(9:30)Anchored up with the fleet of sport and party boats.Put out the squid lights and soon the squid showed, jigged a bunch and brail netted some.
Put our lines out baited with squid and went to sleep.About 3:00 am,my rod hooks up,Scotty grabbed it and landed a nice 20 lb wsb.
Back to bed, slept for 45 minutes, now its 4:00am and were hooked up again. Now its almost constant action until 6:00 am with 12 more wsb in the box.
It slowed a little until Tom hooks up.Not fighting like a wsb,so Tom thinks its a mud marlin. After a short run he gets it to the boat,Scotty first missed it with the gaff, but nails it the second try.
We didn`t know how big it was until we got it in the boat. Our scale bottomed out at 50 lbs,but on the other side of the scale it went to just over 25 kgs. When we got home,it weighted 55 lbs on the bathroom scale.
Stayed on the anchor for another hour for nothing, so we pulled the hook and tried trolling the area for nothing.
Went to a different area and soon hooked up 6 more halibut to 22 lbs.Our buddies in another boat caught a few as well.
Back to the wsb area to spend the night, caught more squid and put the lines out.Hit the sack and slept till 4:00 am when we were awakened by another fish hooked up.
The bite was much slower today. We caught 4 more while anchored till about 9:00 am.
Pulled the hook and trolled the area and picked up 3 more wsb.
Time to go home(10:30 am)we have a lot of work ahead of us.
Final count was 21 wsb to 20 lbs,7 halibut to 55 lbs and 6 bolina.
Had a great time, lots of private and party boats around all catching fish.
We taked to another private boater at the dock that had some wsb,a halibut and a 30 lb yellowtail.
Time to get off the computer and get your asses out there!
