Seabiscuit overnight 7/19

date: 07/17/08
time: 10pm to 7pm
# of anglers: 23
boat: Seabiscuit
landing: Capt. Hooks Sportfishing
catch: 1 halibut, 5 white seabass, 210 rockfish

Hey all,
we made it out friday night... weather was AWESOME for a trip to rosa. We fished seabass at eagles nest for nothing.... but did see PilotLight boat something nice enough to open stern gate. At about 7am Capt. Bobby got a call from the SeaJay... boating some nice fish (up to 40lbs) around the corner from us... SO... we hurried around the corner and parked next to them. The Pacific Islander also arrived shortly after...

We saw a private boater hooking and landing seabass... the seajay also getting some... alsomost right away someone got a nice 20lb halibut...then Erika aka TopShot hooked up, but it was a leo shark... so, no seabass for us for awhile. BUT after about half an hour we got our first two on board. Took about an hour, and we ended up with 5 seabass, a couple of batrays, one harbor seal, and a big black (we think).

With the day quickly being short, we ran out deep and pulled on some nice rockfish. HUGE CHUCKS! The only one out of our group to get a ling was me. Flipper ended up with a solid limit of Chuckleheads. Most of the others had a nice mix.... even my mom nailed a bunch of hog reds. Randy aka Stickerguy got the biggest red though... ran about 6 lbs.

All in All... great day to be on the water. Overcast kept the wind down below ten knots... waves were mild... fishing the front side of rosa is always awesome.

Randy took a bunch of pics, so Im sure he will upload them soon....
Erika has some on her camera too...

Wasn't a day for technique, or skill.....Just plain ol' luck....If I was a non-drinker, on a bachelor party trip, fishing a spinning reel, upside down, with a 5-hook ganion, tangling everyone around me.....I would have KILLED 'em !!!!!!
Watching all those first-timers nail the quality fish did not help the way-to-many-beers-from-the-night-before headache either....
I left the cord to my camera at work so I will have to post pics Monday....
Who the hell catches Leopard Sharks at Rosa anyway???

At least it got the blood pumping to pull on something for a minute.....even forgot about the hang-over for a minute!!!!
We did nicely on the rockfish though...Batray's Ling was Big and Blue!!!!!
I did have a rad time...I think Randy will do up a report...he has some great shots...
Not every trip can be epic....although most of our trips are.....Just being out there with the Homies was good time enough!!!!

Batray, Flipper, TopShot and Jackpot all Said already........but heres my side of the story....

Im writing this report Sunday morning @ 1pm from the Bar at Carrrows Restaurant having A Schooner of Beer and Some Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs….As I walked over here I noticed the famous “Legacy” sitting in the parking lot and had to say hello to Mike Moore….They were in vons getting some provisions for their trip to the islands today…..Mike’s boat is one super bitchen skipjack, loaded, ready to fish, and has insane bait capacity and fish storage!!! Nice rig Mike!

So……..What I really needed this week was some fishing!!!! Work has been INSANE…..Family has been INSANE……Stickerguy just needed some fishing!!!!!!!!

I had multiple thoughts….1.5 day in San Diego….The came the opportunity to fish Santa Rosa Island on a private 28’ Seasport……That got cancelled…..Then I had the chance to Jump on the Seabiscuit with Flipper, Batray, TopShot and man others as I was angler #23 on this open party trip………..Wow…..Im going fish open party with 20+ anglers….A first for me in many years!!!!!

We arrived captain Hooks about 9pm for a 10pm departure on the “Seabiscuit” from Captain Hooks Sportfishing……

One of the first things I noticed……

So we had a few of these in your honor!!!

I went inside to check in and noticed the new and revised shop at Captain Hooks! Looking Very Good!

As I walked down to the boat I noticed the new docks….Very Nice….and the Speed Twin is Back…

As we left the harbor, we spotted some crazy characters yelling and screaming…..Look Closely….Is that the dark kings…..and Baja Dave….Why Yes it is!!! Good Times were had on Island Spirit Im sure!!!!

We had an uneventful crossing, slightly bumpy and next thing I know Im getting up and I see Squid Lights at Santa Rosa……

It was the 19th and Time to Make Bait!

……Well Eagles had plenty of bait, we made a bunch of squid….. Got your Snaggers???

Woke up to see these guys around us…..

No Biters….Made a sweep thru Bechers….

Capt Bob Valney sp? Really put in a good effort, the boat was super roomy, the bunks are awesome!!! Id fish this boat again!

Our Crew “Victor” and “Renee” did a great job!

Licorice was onboard!!!

The islands are always insane….We as anglers are truly lucky to see them as many never will….

Fish Were Caught!!

Friendly Faces!

This Boats Cheesburgers Rock!

Friends enjoyed some time on the water, fishing, laughing and doing what we do!!!!

Me personnaly......I had a great time….I ate, drank, fished, laughed and had 1 fantastic time on the water…..Till the next adventure……….

See you on the Water Soon!!!
