Took my two buddies Brian and Greg to the island Saturday morning for some seabass and yellow fishing. We left Davies around 2:45am and turned the corner of the East End around 4:30am.
The crossing rather sucked due to the residual lump from the winds in the afternoon and the south swell coming from the opposite direction. After a bumpy ride we finally arrived at our destination and set up amongst the rest of the fleet on the grounds and went to work.
The big mackeral were a nuisance from the get go.

We caught one after another and the other boats were having the same success. Finally the right kind picked up my dropper loop and our first and only exotic of the day was on. I was fishing 40lb and I was feeling pretty good about landing this fish until it started going all over the place. Normally yellows will obviously pull hard, but this fish was going ballistic and changing directions like a bonito on speed. I realized something was amiss, but before I knew what was happening a big knothead got a hold of my fish and that was the end of that battle.
Shortly thereafter I see Mr. Seal enjoying the fruits of my labor.

I'm bringing a paintball gun next time and I plan on having a little fun with those frickin knotheads.
Anyway that was it for the day as very few fish were caught from what we could see. We went to the Frontside to finish up our day where we caught quite a few bonito and calicos. Called it a day around 12:30pm and was back home napping by 3pm.
The fishing was not what we had hoped for, but we had fun nonetheless.
