Santa Rosa/ Cruz Islands 7/19
Hey Gang!
Did something a little different (for us anyways) went seabass fishing.
I had My buddies Matt and Whitney with me and made the run to Eagles nest at Santa Rosa Island, kinda a bumpy run from Santa Barbara harbor as we only averaged 18-19 knots most of the way over. We arrived around 5:30am and purchased a very healthy half scoop of squid from the Outer Banks and chose to set up near him in 87ft of water. Tim mentioned that it had been a late morning/ early afternoon bite, however a long story short we managed three schoolie seabass while gutting pumelled by huge mackeral.
We stuck it out till about 11:30 then bailed for the West end of Cruz to finish the rest of the day.
I set us up on the weather side (read lumpy!) of Fraser point in 60ft of really fishy looking water for a steady pick nice calico’s , sheepshead , and misc rockfish including some huge Johny bass on both the squid and the Big Hammers. A side note: we were able to jig squid a little, but I was glad we bought the bait from Tim. The ride back was a little better, making it back from the West end of Cruz to S.B. in just under an hour…Captain Larry
