Headed out on the Sea Jay with the Ladies on a 4am charter...Weather was beautiful and the ride across the channel was smooth and quick...

We started off in Chinese fishing Seabass where we spotted a school of close to 60 fish breezin' around...We stopped on them but only got one to bite...A smaller schoolie of around 8 pounds...We looked around for a while and metered lots of fish, but none wanted to chew...
We decided that it was Calico time and off we ran for the Kelp...Bass fishing was epic...I fished the rubber most of the day and it seemed to be the preferred method for the bigger fish. Those fishing the fin-bait seemed to get majority shorts...We agreed that all fish over 4 pounds were to be let go and we ended up releasing a hanfull of those...So gorgeous out there...no wind and so blazin' hot that I was actually dripping sweat...

We decided we had had enough of the Kelp Flies and wanted one more try at the Seabass...The Santa Cruz bite had been an afternoon one so off we went to the other side where as soon as we rounded Pedro Point you could see the entire fleet, plus tons of PB's toughing out the wind and current.

We anchored up in 36 feet of water between Pedro Point and Hungrymans and I tied on the old Faithfull dropper-loop set-up with 5 ounces of weight...Could not hold the bottom so I switch it to 8...no luck...then 12 freakin' ounces seemed to finally do the trick in 36 feet of water...JEEZ......But we were hopefull as we watched other nearby boats hanging fish off and on...
Got bit and spit right away... wound up and exchanged my mangled up bait for a dead sardine and a kickin' one and shot it back down....
HOOK UP!!!!!

After a short run around the boat we got color on a vibrant 22 pound Seabass and I was stoked as the gaff went over and plopped her on the deck!

This would end up being the final fish of the day for us, talk about gettin' JP in the nick-of-time.... We pulled the hook and headed for home...
Ended the day with a limit of Calico Bass and a nice Seabass!!!!

Watched the crew clean fish for a bit while I finished off my 12 pack...
Found my new favorite shirt...hee.hee......

Thank you to Capt. John Fuqua, George, and JJ for yet another great trip on the Sea Jay...Hopefully weather will be this nice next weekend for the MIRAGE charter!!!!!!
