7/30/08 Catalina Report
Got up at about 4:00 am, got ready to go at 4:30, met up at my neighbors house. and we were on the move at 5:00. we were on the water at 5:45, and at the bait barge at 6. we fished the bait barge for mackerel, and we caught about 6-7 we kept 3 for yellowtail.
We reached bird rock at about 7:00 fished bird rock for about an hour and a half, and seeing as how it was our first time going to catalina on my neighbors new boat, we decided to all the way around the island. once we got the western tip near avalon, the water turned a turquoise color and the calico bite picked up. we ended up with a bunch of shorties and one 4 pound bonito.
no yellows, and no WSB. so we can hope for it next time.
pics will come eventually.
any tips from people who regular catalina are welcome and appreciated...
