Help!
I went out Sunday to capa and cruz, for nada except for 2 sandies threw a scampi in the kelp! Water was colder than I expected 65 but the current was strong. We have been fishing the islands for 5 yrs now, we have put in the hunting time. I see no fish below I just look for structure. I see the cattle boats searching too, moving around alot. Please someone help me. Ya everyone says I need to put the time in to find the spots, but I have! I don't know where everyone went but I think I know. I will not say because I know how people need to keep the new spots secret. Can someone e mail me and tell me where to get fish in channel islands? My hands are up! I am ready to put my boat in San Diego. Actually, my husband is ready to move the boat, I love the islands and am not looking forward to driving to SD, or putting the boat in PV or Loretto. I love being to drive down to CI and going out. I do NOT want to do the 2/half drive to SD or have to fly to Mex to be on my boat! I know the pressure was on in the last 4 days and we missed it. Probably 400 WSB taken if you add up the counts. Wiped it out! Yellows come in one at a time, I guess I would like to fish for Halies. I am not into pulling up tiny reds with their eyes popping out in the gap. I refuse to kill those small fish, ya I can find them but what a waste. Are we fished out? I know where to move on, do I need to go there or just go to Cat? Help! I love our Islands and just being on the boat but, I want to catch some fish!!! Please send me a PM with some advice guys and girls. I am so done here gas and bait, plus the dogs seem to be everywhere, plus I hooked 3 ducks, and a pelican! I had all the zoo around me where everywhere I went! Could hardly put bait down. What is up with the pelicans? I have never seen so many is there a food shortage? And then the dogs, I needed to move 3 times kept pulling up dine heads!

Boy....sometimes we ALL feel like that!!! It's just timing! A week earlier and you would have been in the seabass. I don't like fishing for the dinks in the gap either, so you are limited to halibut, WSB, or YT...and it's timing. The dogs are everywhere, and (no offense) when we take a 600 and 900 lb "seal eater" out of the food chain, we really can't complain...you can shoot 'em with paint balls now! The pelicans are just looking for a meal, so if you don't give them one (get bait down quickly), they'll leave. I think the only option is to go for a longer boat ride. Anacapa and the east end of Santa Cruz are great when the big three are around, but pretty much fished out for the resident fish. Go west from there and you will have more options. Good luck and I agree...the long ride to San Diego or flight to Mexico will just add to your frustration. BTW, I have those days all the time.

I feel your pain....You do know that Anacapa is a Pelican preserve, right....They do seem to be way out of control lately...East end Barracuda fishing is like a joke..Pelicans eating the jigs and even bare hooks as you wind them in...Hang in there girl...there is plenty to be caught in our beautiful Channel Islands.

I would suggest stretching the legs toward Rosa and the west end of Cruz. Lots of bigger fish up that direction.
Catalina is a real circus sometimes. Hundreds and hundreds of boats everywhere!

I'm going to Rosa tonight or tomorrow. If ya wanna pull on big rockfish try Carrington near the closure area,be carefull to stay out of the closure area.Try some of the ledges around 175,to200'.Pretty much a no brainer.Want bass?Try anywhere there is kelp w/a little current running.High tides usually better. sounds as if you have the vessel for it ,and the winds on the bouys are down right now ,but that can change within a few hours so be carefull.
Good luck.If you happen to see a little 21' parker out there drive up,and say hi.
MJ.

i feel like mike j does about it...you fish capa and east end of cruz...where its the most heavly hit on..then make comparisons of why you dont catch fish to the likes of Island Tak and Aloha Spirit. Those guys are masters of the game.....they catch fish and you dont...get use to it...they are elite..and they carry 9 million scoops of bait to chum...never ever think you can fish with the likes of them...they have the PB out classed...but where you have it over most....and use it to your advantage is that kick ass parker of yours...it needs to be at rosa...Do as Joey said..head to the west end of cruz and rosa...come back with full sacks every trip..The fuel and time you waste going down to SD for a hit and miss cant be worth it...verses going out to better fishing grounds that is just 15 miles further then your fishing now...

Ya know phisy I think this time of year SD,or CAT just might be a good call, but only if you know where to go,and what your really doing out there.I've been really blessed w/pretty much good weather, and and the fish biting.
I've been out there a few times and got totally skunked on hook and line.
I totally agree w/you on comparing a PB to any of these boats, and captains around here thats been slayin for years.I'm still learning, and have a HELL--a long way to go thats for sure.
Invites always still open to you when your up for it. Let me know.
MJ.

Thanks guys, I'll give Rosa a try. I worry about the weather, it really changes out there fast. I am thinking about going out in the afternoon and anchering at beaches over night so I am there for the greylight. Is beaches the best place to spend the night?

Well there is one thing that gets over looked when fishing. I can only speak for myself but I would rather catch nothing then go rock fishing. I know some people want fish, ANY fish on the boat but to me it is quality not quantity that makes for a good day. I don't make fun of or put down anyone that likes it but you have to decide what is worth your money and time. I am dieing to hit San Diego and see what I can find and would love to put some dodos on the boat. I have a better chance of catching a marlin but it is worth the shot to me. The Cbass I put on the boat were just total and complete blind luck and was a right time right place situation but like has been said here all ready the key is TONS of bait dumps to get them to start chewing. It is killing me to see tons of fish on the finder and none want to play.
Good luck I hope you get what you are after and have a blast doing it.
