Mixed bag on the Seahorse

On 08/05 took an overnight out of Dana Wharf to get in on this dorado bite. Kelp paddy fished to find dorado yellows and albacore present. Dorado range from dink to maybe 15lbs plus. Yellows were 15-25 plus and albacore 25-40lb I ended up with one nice yellow and three dink dorado( still awesome to see them jump out the water)
The majority of the boat made the most of every paddy considering we did not experience a wide open all hell breaks loose fish just jumping on to the boat situation. Indeed people on board made the most of the fishing and this was a fun trip. Thanks to the boat and crew they tried there best to make it enyjoyable for everyone, they worked really hard, and the tried best to find the fish. The boat ended the day with a respectable 7 Albacore Tuna 8 Yellowtail 53 Dorado.

I was on there too with my son. We managed 4 Dorado including one of those bigger units.

Most of the Albies came on the troll. Only 2 on bait and one of those was off a kelp paddy when fishing for dorado. The last one came on the way back when they were cleaning fish. All were 25-30#.

The YT came on bait (I think one was a surface iron) off paddys. All were 15-25#. Vance hooked one on a surface iron (dorado tady c) and lost it in the paddy. That'll teach him to throw on 30#!

I got one Dorado about 12-15#, one was smaller and two were the size of big mac's. A lot of those caught were babies. I lost a megabait fish at the boat (single hook). My son got one from the bow on the megabait as we slid up to a paddy.

I fished mostly with 20# (I got one Dorado on 15#). I used 25# with a megabait and 40# with surface iron. People going heavier (30#) were just fishing and not catching.
All you needed was a good casting 20# rig and a few 2/0 hooks in your pocket.

Mark, thanks for filling in the . I managed to get all my fish on 25lb no flourocarbon. Something happened everytime i had i a hot bait. I would of have ended up with couple more if not for improper hook sets. But you are right 30lb was not working.

Those light green 'dines were nice and slimy and real movers. There were not enough of them. Some of those baits were pretty weak.

Later in the day i gave one of the guys fishing 30# on a spinner some 20# fluoro but it was too late to save his day. The couple of guys with spinners spent most of the time tangling rather than fishing anyway... especially 'red'. Both were skunked.
