Fished the Aloha Spirit on a Gold Coast Lady Anglers Charter Sunday....Couple of the us Ladies got to bring a fellow...So we had 4 Get Benters on board....Me, Stickerguy, Flipper and Batray....SFRHoman was on the Island Spirit so I got to meet him....Finally!!!!
We headed over to Anacapa where the White Seabass had put on a serious chew the day before......When we arrived the Tak and Sea Jay were already there and a bunch of PB's also......
Report was that they had already boated a few Seabass, but not many....We metered around and stopped on fish numerous times, but they did not want to cooperated like they did the day prior....Go Figure...Isn't that they way it always is???? The bite was better yesterday or will blast off tomorrow....but not usually while you are out......
So I decided to throw my rod into clicker mode and toss some Iron....Just needed a fish on the deck....What a joke that was......Pelican patrol was out in full force and if you didn't hit one in mid air casting, they would fly into your line or eat your jig on the grind.....Frustrating......so I started in on the Tecates to ease the pain......
No love on the East end so we headed off to the back side to see if the Bass wanted to play....We anchored up and Flipper had one first cast on the rubber.......but conditions were not the best, the boat was not laying right in the wind and current so we just picked for a while....Then the whitefish came out to play and it was on!!!!!
We all started to catch fish which was awesome because reports from other sporties in the area were pretty bleak.....
Anyway...ended up with what was probably a limit of Whitefish...I lost count, I was havin' such a blast and John (Galley cook) was keeping me well hydrated with rail side Tecate service all day....Then switched it up to a reverse dropper loop setup and my next hook-up had more shoulders than a white fish... Sheephead....next cast another, next cast another, then a whitefish, then another Sheephead...I found the honey hole and had four in almost a row!!!!! Batray got one also right after mine...Good times, more Tecate please.....
Once we got all the chewers off that stone we tried one more for nada and decided we would try the East end again to see if the Cuda and Seabass were ready to chew yet...We were joined by the Island Spirit, Speed Twin, Gentleman, and lots of others who were all picking off onsey-twosey's on the Seabass and Cuda....
Pelicans again relentless so I racked the iron and sent a dropper loop to the bottom with high hopes....Bendo!!!!
I think the whole fleet heard me hollerin' when the gaff brought that fish over...For a tough day, I was doing pretty well!!! I hope that Homan got some pics...he was only about 20 yards away!!!!
That was the only Seabass we got...Not huge, but large enough to earn the crew the JP money!!!! The rest of the day was a mix of Barracuda and chickens!!!!! Flipper flew some awesome kites.....
The crew on the Aloha was absolutely awesome!!! It was my first time on that boat and I will fish it over and over again...Kelley, Eddie, John, and of course Shawn...Thanks so much for a most memorable day!!!! You guys were a lot of fun!
