Should have stopped at Anacapa

Well...the water looked very good and the wind was down on that side of the islands. We didn't get an early start. Loaded with bait we left the harbor at 8:00am and were about 4 miles on the back side of Anacapa at 9:00am. Water was 66.7' until about 8 miles were it climbed to 68.5'. Same to 10 miles where we located a slime line with numerous paddies. There was bait under the kelp so we soaked baits, moving around the area it looked fishy but nothing was happening. Moved toward the footprint and soaked on every paddy we came across. Just for fun we trolled rapala's around in circles covering as much of the area as we could towards Yellowbanks. Stopped and had lunch and headed home in sloppy conditions and in the slip by 2:00pm. Great day on the water, but should have tried halibut fishing (or something!)

Nice try Mike! It's only a matter of time with that warm blue water off the backside of the islands before they arrive. 311 zonal could be interesting. Heard spotters are seeing some fish under the paddies.

Isn't that how it always goes? A day late or a dollar short....

Better luck next time

Latest pic shows cool water on the 311 so save fuel for now. Better bet may be to work further south. Heard of some dorado on backside of Cat so lacking wind they may be coming up soon. Focus is off OC and SD..

Good post I was wondering about that break. Sorry nothing went off. Looks like the connecting warm water is due south 20 miles or so according to tempbreak. I am hoping to get out on the new ride and head to Catalina after beelining to Anacapa.

The temp break at the edge of the dumping grounds, about 38-40 miles on a 184 from CIH has been stable for almost 6 weeks. Nice color break there as well that has been very stable. Our target was a bit different when we were out there so we did not pay too close attention to the meter marks. That is the area we took that 900 lb mako from, and those things don't chase small fish. Last week I had a solid report of breaking Tuna on it.
