OK, so my first dorado was pretty damn small....

...oops...

.....but that only means that my next dodo will certainly be my personal best!
Sorry for the late report. I haven't been fishing for the last month as I was hit by a car while crossing the street over the Fourth of July holiday. I'm fine, but I banged up my leg pretty good, and haven't been spending much time on my feet.
My friend Gary got us on my first ever overnight trip on the Holiday Thursday/Friday, giving me only 6 hours notice to get my self together. He has a friend who had to give up his tickets. Sigh, oh well....
It was quite a party with 32 anglers (5 women, including me) and a crew of 4 plus Captain's Randy & Ron. Gary gave me some scopalomine which truly worked miracles, and allowed me to tolerate the stuffy little coffin I had to sleep in (bottom bunk farthest from the door). We picked up our bait, mixed quality sardines, and ended up about 57 miles South and began fishing about 5:30am. We trolled to each paddy stop, and there were a number of bites early in the morning, most of which broke off or were lost through major tangles with other anglers. Overall, fishing was SLOW!

Of the 5 women angling, 3 of us caught fish.

Inside the fish hold (a sad sight as that was at the end of the day)

That's it folks.... the entire day's catch for 32 anglers.
14 dorado (1 on troll)
21 yellowtail (1 on troll)
2 bonito (both while trolling home past the Coronados)

Jackpot!
Quite a few people got skunked completely, especially considering that one guy caught 4 yellowtail and a dorado, and some caught two, so I am glad I did not get skunked and can cross yet another first off my list. Everyone was very nice and helpful. We just never found that golden paddy. Too bad we were not on the boat just 24 hours later. They caught a 33lb wahoo the very next day!
One thing I did learn quickly today was to not check my bait with dozen other lines so close by. The paddy stops were so short anyway, and you were likely enough to get tangled up with someone's actual fish. But to see a half dozen lines tangled together and pulled back onto the boat because someone is just checking their bait was supremely frustrating.
