Speed Twin 8-12-08

Went out on the Speed Twin today for the first time in forever. Just found out last week the owner/captain in went to school with in Simi growing up and is buddies with my brother. Met Andy and his daughter Shanna at the landing and quickly we were heading out. Met Tanner and immediately started talking about all manner of things. He's a pretty cool kid. Stopped at the flats/bass area to take a shot on the calicos. Not much happening, but I did manage a decent sand bass on Nathans IGFA12 rod and cheap spinning reel. Fun.
Then it was out to rockfish in 30,000 feet of water. Ground out 7-8 assorted rockfish, then it was off to take a shot at the Cuda's. Throwing an iron in between the friggin Pelican flocks surrounding us was challenging. I easily hooked a half dozen birds. The birds then temporarily left us to swarm the Aloha Spirit. I managed to hook up a couple Cudas on the TadyC surface iron(on the 765XL and the coffee grinder). Boated one, farmed one, then lost my ten year old iron to a Pelican. Kinda bummed. Oh well. That pretty much wrapped it up. Wanted to win JP so I could hook up Tanner, but got beat by two other fish. Sorry Tanner, maybe next time. But since I'm kind of a crappy fisherman, don't hold your breath. I will hit you up next time for some lead when I get on. Took some pics with the cuda then gave it to my bro who believe it or not likes to eat them. Overall fun, the time passed quick and got to see my niece catch a fish. I will go back again for sure!
