yellowfin tuna
(8/13/08)Just a short report. Went out of Daveys Locker Newport Beach and traveled 60 miles out to an area east of San Clemente not so sure but it is in the area where some overnights have slaughtered the yellowfin with a 100 plus fish. I decided to take a chance at it.
For most of the day it was overcast which i heard has an effect on the ability to catch fish on the troll. Consequently, not one fish was caught on the troll which made it difficult to find schools of fish. We managed to run into some kelp paddies and find fish on the sonar and made a few stops catching few fish at various stops. I remember one stop where people were hooked up 6 at time or so and managed to put 12-15 fish, more dorado than yellowfin on that stop, for the best action of the day. I ended up well that day with 4 yellowfin and one dorado. My biggest and jackpot fish was appx 25 (no one with digiscale) Just beat out a ten year old by few ounces.
Thanks to boat and crew of Tide Change. I noticed a few things done differenltly like setting gear aside when they wash the boat instead of spraying all the fish gear with saltwater and coaching you with the fish when you are hooked up.Small things that make a difference.
