Put together a crew of friends and fished out of Dana Saturday morning. Launched the boat at 4:30am and after waiting in line for bait another 20 minutes or so we made a trek in the direction of the 209. Our first paddy was of the smaller grade, but of course everyone is anxious to wet a line, so we made a quick stop for nothing.
About 20 minutes later, Bill spots what looks to be a monster paddy with no one else in sight. The closer we got the more excited we became. This paddy was frickin huge! The first bait to hit the water was slammed! Then the second! Then the third and finally the fourth (mine)! We had a quad going right off the bat! This went on for well over two hours. We had at least one going the entire time. The amazing thing was how long it took before another boat even came our way.
Finally another boat came in and asked permission to join us and of course permission was granted. Not long after that we had a few more boats join the fray including Steve (Burndog). Steve was nice enough to ask permission as well.

By this time we had 20 fish on board and had released another 60+ fish. With all the boats arriving the bite slowed down quite a bit and we decided to make a run for some tuna.
We continued on and found numerous porpoise schools along the way. Unfortunately our trolling efforts were for naught. After a few more hours of this we began to make our way back in. We found a few more paddies along the way and proceeded to land a few more dodos. By this time we pretty much had our fill with dorado fishing. That being said another boat waved us into another paddy they were working and a few more were landed. To reward their kindness we gave them some of the fish we just caught.
One other little tidbit. On the big paddy earlier we saw a huge mako cruising around and we took a short hiatus from catching dorado and made an effort to land the mako. Unfortunately we didn't have any mackeral and we were too stupid to try to use a dodo slab, so we proceeded to troll a few lures by his nose. The effort was there, but eventually he sunk out and we went back to paddy fishing.
On a final note, every boat that we came across was very respectful to others fishing the paddy. Everyone was working together and that's the way it should be. I was also fortunate to have such a great crew. Thanks to Brian, Bill and Dave for joining me on what turned out to be an unbelievable day of fishing.
An epic day on the water for sure!
