Rosa Sat- Mon
Left CI harbor Sat morning, destination Rosa until Monday. Mind you we have a 2121 Parker, so packing food, ice, bait, and clothes, isn't easy! We gased and baited up, and left around 7. The crossing was nice, we stopped at Cruz for some bass fun, all released. We ran into our friend and told him our plan for the next 2 days, he said gale force winds! I told him, well, maybe by Monday it will be ok to come home. Hummm what he said was always at the back of my mind......The water was a cold 60, we thought it would be warmer. Fished up and down Rosa all day. We caught too many fish for me to give you a count, we released everything except the larger ones. Bob hooked up a nice sheepshead and I hooked up a nice red, bonita and bass. Around 4 we thought it best to figure exactly where we were going to anchor for the night, and to be sure we were in the sand, as the winds were kicking up pretty good. We settled in and made Bonita sushi, grilled bonita, sheepshead, chicken, corn, and salad, I figured I might as well cook enough for lunch Sunday. Most of our bait rolled so I stayed up until midnight drinking champagne and making macs. Sat night the wind howled and we blew in circles all night! Thank God for videos cuz I couldn't sleep worring about if I really stuck the anchor. Sunday I woke up to all my macs rolled! Oops I guess running those lights making bait killed the battery and the tank, tanked! The wind was ridculous, and the chop and current was crazy. Oh well, made some more bait and we had frozen squid. We went out cuz I am a crazy girl and I didn't go all that way for nothing. Water was a cold 55! Sooooo there we sat or should I say rolled, wind blowing hard, etc. I was fine for a while until I started seeing swells coming our way. Fine, I thought and still sat there soaking my beloved bait that I made myself. Ok, so , oh no, here comes a wall of water at me, I am thinking Titanic! It looked like it was going to break over us! Ok I'm cool we went up over it and down, but here comes another one. "Oh shit! Let's get outta here! I was scared, I have done it in Mexico on a ponga, but the guy said no problema, not on my boat. Bob jamed out ov there with the next big swell behind us. Phew! We made it back in and I said, " Honey, let's just watch videos and stay in the cabin. It was cold, windy, and foggy, I pretended it was a rainy day, and was happy to beat the heat in the valley. Bob wanted to go home. I said , you go and leave me here, nooooo way an I crossing 2 gaps in this weather. Inshore it was nice, so we cleaned up and reorganized the boat. A few hours later, it was beautiful, so we went back out to catch tons more assorted reds, and bass. Again we released them as we only keep what we need, and they will grow up for another day. I caught a keeper sheepshead, a few bigger bass, and some nice fish tacos, which I kept. I had a nice ling but wasn't sure if it was legal, anyway we had plenty of fish. Back to the anchorage, fileted our fish, when the wind kicked up again! I am talking gale force winds, and freezing! I couldn't go out of the cabin! Bob wasn't sure if the grill would fire up but it did, so we had corn , bonita sashimi, salad, and movies!!! I couldn't make bait that night. We work up late Mon. around 7, I was exausted, the way the wind was howling, and us spinning around the anchor line, I was checking all night, to make sure we didn't break lose and end up in Hawaii. We were out of frozen squid so I made some more bait. Nothing was happening as we worked our way down on the way home. Fuel was a concern too. We went on to Cruz, beautiful day, no fish, but the water was glass! I loved saying, " honey, aren't you glad I told you to stay where we were and cross on Mon?" in my little obnoxious voice. Haha. We headed in around 2 pm, cleaned up the boat, and here I am! I had a blast, it is hard however in a small boat to convert it from fishing, to cooking, to sleeping, and back again, but I have it down! It was great to be on the water, and an adventure for us old folk!
