Fishing not catching 101

Well class this is how you fish all day and only have bait to show for it.

First you meet up with your buddy at 5am and head to the gas station. You spend 100 bucks to fill up after last weeks mistake and head to the ramp.
Meet up with your other buddy and launch the boat about 6am and head to the bait dock.
Put a scoop of bait in the tank so that half of it can roll by the time you hit your destination (more later) and then head out the harbor.
Aim for the 17 in hopes that life will be there and stop on every decent paddy throwing your dieing bait on it for nothing more then other bait to run way from, under the paddies. See first pic below.

After a 2 hour run and seeing only mammals around with no tuna or anything under the porpoise and or dolphin or at least no tuna that wants to bite anything you trow troll or drop down, you reach your destination. With SBI hardly visible threw the clouds (next pic) you start your chum line hopping for a mako, blue, anything with fines to follow it up your your boat and chomp on your bait but yet all you see is little tuna birds eating the floating bits of fish wafting from your chum bucket. This is when you check you bait and see that the chovies have rolled and now you have some nice dines but only half you bait is left.

You must wait at least 3 to 4 hours before frustration sets in and you MUST run to Cruz basin hopping that maybe there be life there aarrr. On the way there more mammals including some whales and bottle nose running your bow wake (very cool see pic) to set up yet another chum line and have NOTHING come up it either!!!

Now this is desperation time and it is getting late. You will be temped to stay and let your chum line set long enough to catch something but NO!!! you must pull up and run to smuggles for the only game fish you can get on board, a nice Bonie care of our own flipper. Some where in there you get some sleep but really your just dead inside hopping for the sweet relief of laughter from your buddies. To conclude todays class what ever you do make sure you have a clear plan before you leave the ramp so you can change it half a dozen times while on the water and that is how you fish instead of catch fish.

It was a great day even with out fish, just being on the water with friends makes it all worth while BUT I need some fish soon hehehe. I guess I am going to have to jump on a cattle boat so I can see what real fish look like.

The last pic is one Joey shot on the bow with flipper(Mike) and well the OGflipper (bottle nose). I have a video of it but must shrink it a little first.

Guys thanks for a fun day, some day I will get us on some fish that want to bite!!!

Yep! Been there, done that! But like you said, a beautiful day on the water, saw some sea life, enjoyed friends...fish are just a by-product! At least that's what I keep saying to myself!

Yep, I feel your pain. Did the same thing on Friday. We found some huge paddies between San Nic and the 17 that I thought for sure would be holding in 70+ degree water. But no go. We arrived at the 17 late afternoon with a huge pod of dolphin feeding, but nothing there for us. Frustrating, especially since most of our bait rolled by then. They may still show up, I think the water is still a little cold.
