Thumbs up Pacific Dawn 9/9 to 9/11

ICEE and I had a 2 Day all inclusive on the Pacific Dawn booked out of Fisherman's Landing....it was a well deserved mini vacation due for me and ICEE just wanted to get on some Yellowfin or eat the heart out of one....when we got there we ran into some familiar faces....Wayne "Millertime" and Mike, Mike Pruner was supposed to be there but cancelled out......we headed out picked up some pretty strong baits of Sardines and Chovies then headed to backside of San Clemente where they have been hitting the Yellowfin the day before....so we got our bunks situated and hunkered down for a great night sleep.....I slept in.... to about 0600 got up started to wakeup ICEE but he was already on the rail so I got my boots on and headed top side to only see four anglers soaking baits with nothing going on and Capt. Apollo "Sparky" was on the tank chumming but nothing was going on........ehhhhhhhh so I sat down had some breakfast yummy eggs bendict with some java to get me started, soon after that Capt. Pat Cavannah fired up the boat and we started our trolling rotation to go look for something to chew on our hooks......water was really nice, it was overcast sun trying to break through clouds at times but mainly was an overcast day....still trolling....trolling...rolling.....trolling...Man Dog was up in the crows nest searching for paddies or Porpoises.....rolling...wait there's a kelp paddy...nobody home.....trolling....rolling....trolling....burned alot of fuel kelp paddy and bam! Single hookup......back to the troll......found another kelp paddy bam ICEE is on gets hisYellowfin to side of boat Gaff reaches down and the fish comes unbutton "AAARRRGGHHH" .......another guy hooks up a Dodo and the fish spits it up, I hookup something big on a 2" Megabait fighting it and a line is crossed mine..I yell "don't pull" and wouldn't you know it the guy jerks and my fish is off "AARRGGHH", I cast out again this time with healthy Sardine back and back it goes "Yes" a Dodo picks it up....line feeds out 1-2-3-4-5 set the hook yeah baby its on!....it leaps out of the water 3 times and spits my bait out "DANG IT", there were a bunch of guys gettin frustrated, had lunch "Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich's and Beer's,...... but hell that's fishing, hit a few more kelp paddies used the 2" Megabait on the slide again ot hit but just couldn't get the hook to sink in....finally we find a pod of Dolphins towards the afternoon and we chased them and picked up 1 or 2 and chased them again and again, and again we got 9 fish total on the boat first day.....so far DAY 1: Millertime, ICEE and Mike and myself we were El Skunk O's......We headed into San Clemente for anchorage at Pyramid for some peaceful waters for dinner "Tritip-mashed potatoes-brocolli" cooked up by Brandon yummy and our waiter for the evening was Man Dog all spiffed up...didn't recognize him.....Capt. Pat says we'll start the morning with some Calico fishing and or Yellowtail fishing early morning then headout to Tuna grounds after that.....I think the brocolli was a bad thing it sure stunk in the bunk room that nightDay 2: roll out of bed at 0600 and smell breakfast cooking grab some java and breakfast is pancakes and sausage and scrambled eggs just hit the spot when Capt. Pat Cavannah has a morning meeting with us and tells us the bad news....... most of our bait "DIED" last night and we were limited to a couple of scoops of healthy baits....so he made a choice to head straight to the Tuna grounds with whatever healthy baits we had left chumming would be at a minimal.......again we trolled for a long period of time....where did all the kelp go didn't see much of that either...another rotation on the troll goes by.....Man Dog see's a paddy so we give it a try Justin hooks up a Bull Dolphin and gets it to the gaff......then back to the troll and we find another paddy and Angel (Capt. Apollo GF) hooksup to be right kind.........but, it a Albacore all by itself "NICE".......back to the troll we find another paddy and someone else gets a Dodo to the boat and gaffed so far the mornings looking good.....so we're back to the troll again......we see some Porpoises schooling but they were all spreadout and there wasn't much of a buildup of fish below them and they weren't feeding so the Skipper leaves them to troll some more...........did I mention we were trolling some more.......try like all day................trolling......trolling......we' ll it was time to quit but the skipper says leave one rod rigged and as we're heading home if we spot anything we'll give it a try.........by this time it was time to set up the poker table.......I can say I did better at the poker table than I did fishing........last chance Skipper Pat is 15 minutes from a pod of Porpoises and we're gonna chase the and see what we could do............we get on the pod set our hooks out ..........NOTHING........skipper gets the boat out in front of them and we try again............NOTHING........that's it skipper says we're heading home...........I'd like to thank Pat Cavannah and crew for trying there best to get us on some fish........that's why it's fishing not catchin'!

You found the mammals and the paddies but nobody's home and it's not for lack of effort. That's just the way it goes. Better luck next time.

I don't know nothin' about trains, but I am pretty sure that pineapple and broccoli don't mix. I am glad I wasn't below deck that night. the Mirage is bad enough when the apple bomb strikes! Too bad about the fish, but being there is half the fun.

I am honored to draw the skunk in such great company as Pina, Icee and Spectre.. among others.

I had one shot... ~15 min spent trying to get an agro YFT to gaff when it rolled at color and the hook pulled.

That was it for me but glad you guys were on board.

Until next time....
