Santa Cruz Island 9/13

Hey Gang!
Fished out of Santa Barbara harbor yesterday with a group of three anglers. Are target was the West end of Santa Cruz Island, the ride out wasn’t too terrible, as we made 22-24knts most of the way out, once we got into the Potato patch (area between Cruz/ Rosa) it got a bit snotty. We started out on the North side of Fraser point for just a few fish, however once we came around the point it was game on! We spent the day in the kelp, with and with out hard bottom in it, and had a great pick going most of the day.
We ended the day catching and releasing (91) calico bass! with 12-15 fish in the 4lb to 6.5lb range!, the rest of catch was made up of 2-3lb fish, so it was quantity as well as quality. We also released (4) bonito to 10lbs, 18 misc rockfish and a 7lb ling. Most everything was caught on the Big Hammers with all sizes from 4in to 6.5in working, reds, browns, oranges, as well as blue shad colors being the hot colors. Water was green and 64.5degrees. Captain Larry

Thanks for the report, we were going to go way outside, but cancelled because of the swells. I am glad you caught so many fish.
