another 181 report (9-12)

Fished out of Oceanside Friday. Great bait again. Headed to the 181 early. Lots of dolphin/birds east of the high spot, but nothing happening in the morning. Came up on a marlin but he sunk out pretty quick. Didn't have much to offer it anyways. Found a couple spots of breaking fish, but couldn't get them to go, so did the 43, 182 loop hoping to find a productive paddy or albacore on the troll. No love there.

Anyways, heard on the radio it was an afternoon bite, so made our way back towards the 181 where we saw lots of life in the AM. Found the dolphin again, but this time they were on the move with a half dozen boats working them. Managed six fish and lost a few. Had a friend along who has never fished tuna. He couldn't get bit, so I handed off a few fish to finally have him land one. Fun fishing.

Heard it was wide open on the 302. Also, heard the 182 was very productive in the AM. Didn't hear much going on around the 43. We stopped on many, many large paddies. All dry.

Here's a few pics.

Go get 'em Mike. I'm sure you'll kill them again.

Michael, I usually launch out of Channel Islands. The hull is red, hard to miss.

Yeh, the gaff job was classic. I actually missed the fish and somehow caught it on the tail.

Even, not a saltist. I'm cheap and fish Toriums. Good cheap reals.

WTG and still a nice catch. I gotta wait for Saturday. Don't think we'll be headed East, but ya never know. One of the fellas wants to hunt Marlin. We'll see what the water looks like on Friday.
