DATE: 7/30 1:30am departure

WHERE: SANTA CRUZ BACKSIDE OF CAPA

BAIT: LIVE SQUID, ANCHOVIES, SARDINES AND FRESH DEAD SQUID

CATCH:5 SEABASS,20 BARRIES, A FEW CALICOS

TACKLE: IT LOOKED LIKE A TUNA TRIP THERE WERE ABOUT 60 RODS ON THE BOAT. FOR MY TACKLE CALSTAR 800XL W/ A TRINI 14 AND 20LB, CALSTAR 800M W/ A TRINI 16 AND 25LB, CALSTAR 700M W/ A TRINI 30 AND 30LB. 8 FOOT LOOMIS WITH A CALCUTTA 250 AND 10 LB, 8 FOOT LOOMIS WITH CALCUTTA 400 AND 15LB TEST. I HAD TO TACKLE HO IT! ITS THE ISLAND TAK.

I met up with flipper near the rudder room aroun 9 pm, batty pulled up........yes batty pulled up operating his own vehicle!!! Flipper and I were messing around with our glow in the dark paint, painting jigs. Flippers clicker goes off first and I tangle with him and left it slack so long that the big batray came off SORRY MIKE!!! My clicker goes of next and this thing was pulling very hard! A stupid electra cradft comes by an cuts me off

Socal steve, Diamond boy, Soggy shoe, relaxin, and odh pull up and hang out with us. Then Marvin pulls up, then Drew then Joey. We are all hanging out telling fishing stories haveing a few suds and my clicker goes off again this time its just a little guy, but I did get him up to the rocks. You guys should have a great time at the derby! The rays are there and are ready to play!

After that we head over to ciscos where we find BAJA DAVE! And he was refusing beers from me??? I have never seen it! He must have learned something on the Mirage last time. Dont party too hard before the Sebass go wide open!

We loaded up with some bait and we were off to Santa Cruz. We went over to the front side and parked it. The Steve and John stayed up for us night snagging squid. THANK YOU FOR THAT!!!!

Well the bite starts with barracuda and it was wide open! Fortunatly there were a few seabass mixed in. Bajadave call for a Couple cold ones (At Like 5:45 in the morning) But you know me Im always in for a "Ralley" Brew! And sure enough Baja goes bendo on get himself a very nice seabass. And it got all of our hopes up that kept hooking into the barries. Well shortly after Bajadave boats his seabass My rod goes of and "B" cups says thats a barracuda! I say No b cups its a seabass. It took me to the front of the boat (inside the anchor of couse! Johnny get up on the bow and puts my rod under the anchor. Hands it back to me and get it to the boat back by the stern, in goes the gaff and the 2 beer drinkers have 2 seabass!!!!!!!!!!!!! Batty is next! He hooks a nice seabass. Now 3 darkings, 3 seabass. Diamond boy comes up with a nice seabass. A well deserved seabass if anyone knows what happened to him on the Mirage. Soggy shoe pulls up a nice seabass and we have 5 on the boat.

We jigged somemore squid and headed arond to the backside of the island. Fished it hard and tryed everything we had. Well we tried our best and didn't get anymore.I was hoping that everyone would get a seabass but unfortunatly thats how it goes sometimes.

I went down stairs to sleep off the beers and the rest of the guys fished a few spots down the backside of capa but had no luck.

By the way guys the deckhand was using my dikes to get the stones out of the heads, and I didnt get the stones back or my dikes Does anyone have those??? I hope so. I hope the pictures follow shortly . I want to see them too.

once again I had a blast with you getbenters! Thanks for everything.

I just want it known that I caught the fist fish (barracuda) and jigged the first squid AND got the first calico!!! LOL sorry with no WSB I had to saysomething to make the pain go away hehe. I had a blast with all you guys and WELL WORTH the trip. I even got Capt Steve belly laughing with my hook up screams hehehe. Good news (if you can call it that) is we were the only boat to hook up more then normal gap stuff. No one found the barries and no one hitthe sea bass so Capt Steve pulled it out again. Thanks all for a great day.

That was an EXCELLENT charter! I had a great time fishing with all of my GetBent Bretheren....yes, it would have been nice for the bite to have stayed the same as it was early in the week, but the company was so good that the bite almost didnt matter.

Int he morning the cuda fishing was pretty WFO...you could land all you want providing you didnt get bit off, and could get the cuda to the boat before the seals would grab it (the seals ate well yesterday). The Seabass fishing was hit and miss...we had just a brief period in the morning that they came through, and they were gone before we knew it. Great job to the anglers who got them! The calico fishing was so so...there were not alot of fish caught, but it seemed as though all the calicos that were boated were of fairly good size. My personal count was a cuda (caught while jigging squid...he ate the gangion!) anda few good sized calicos (released).

Over all, this was truly a great trip...the captain and crew were excellent. Also, to be on a boat filled with friends and no one else was priceless. I cant wait to do it agian!

LOL @ Carni for yelling the loudest "HOOOOOOOK UP" on a squid while jigging

I had fun, but not nearly as much fun as I could have since I was sleep
deprived the whole week, and being on the boat at 1:30am made it worse.
I was falling asleep standing up, sitting down, fishing.. I was really
messed up. I even threw up, but I think that's cuz my body was
completely out of whack from the lack of sleep. Bajadave kept asking if
I was alright because I looked totally out of it. Anyways, It was a
good time as we had a few Seabass boated, some Calicos, and
Barries. We even rescued some people that were in a little raft and
couldn't make it to their sailboat... Joey took pictures of this, I'm
sure he'll post later.

Here's a couple of pix I took of the WSB at the end:

THere's actually better pictures than this that other people have, since i was taking the picture at an angle.

Anyways, it was good seeing all the guys. Hopefully we can do it again.

Here is me with the JP fish. It weighed close on one ounce.

The gulls attacking us on the way home

Soggy looks on as the deckhand cuts up our fish and as bajadave gets the stones out of a seabass head.
