These are the only pics that I managed to get. Enjoy.
We had the option of heading to Santa Rosa Island for the usual stuff,
or Santa Barbara Island where we had heard there was a chance of WSB
and yellowtail. Being true "Get Benters" we decided to go for the
gusto, and headed for SBI, knowing that if those beauties didn't show,
we'd be scratching for quality fish.
We got to the island about 2:00 am, and immediately started jigging for
candy bait. Not much happening, so we went back to bed, and started
again around 5:30 am. This time we managed to boat a couple dozen of
the nasty little squirters
I wish I could tell you that we boated lots of white sea bass and
yellowtail, but it just didn't happen. It wasn't for lack of trying,
though, as the skipper kept trying new spots and we kept plugging away
at it. We did manage to bring quite a few quality rockfish aboard, so
anyone who wanted to go home with a full sack was able to do so.
2amigos's dad was able to bring in the jackpot fish, a big barndoor
which must have weighed at least 30 pounds.
Just the same, it was a beautiful day on the water. The skipper and
crew of the Mirage were terrific, the weather was beautiful, the seas
were calm and the scenery was breathtaking. A visiting barkentine at
the landing cove was a special surprise.
It was great getting together with all my getbent buddies. I've known
some of you for a couple of years now, and you're all great guys. I'm
happy to report that everyone on board worked together to make it a
great day.
And I just can't wait until I can get one of those "fabulous" coffee mugs! </font>[img]smileys/
