Ok here it goes.

With a LATE start (thanks to me) Joey met up with me at my house and we headed out about 11:30 with a brief stop at the store and then the gas station we were out the gate around 1:30 yes (1:30) hehe.

The crossing was bumpy and wet but after only 3 hours of sleep the night before I slept though about most of it. Poor joey was awake by himself most of the trip. We were headed for Albert's but a radio call gave us a new heading andSmugglers was the target. Once on the back side things calmed down a little but the surge was off the hook. We pulled into the cove and after looking around for some fin bait we pulled up to the fleet and anchored down. The party had already started so Joey and I took no time catching up.

Once we were tied off we started the cooking and the LOBSTER was on the grill and a smile on my face. After some yelling and good times around 10pm we hit the hay for a early start.

gray light came out and and it was off to the races with a run to the other side of the island for some halibut fishing. It was WFO on buts Friday and Saturday so we were hoping on a nother day of wide open bite. We had bait down around 6:30 and a nice drift an over cast sky made for a nice day. Water was flat and it was just cool. Soon another boat hooked up and then 2. Man looks like a good day. 2 more boats hook up and then ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ the reel screams and joey is on but it spit it and tangled him up with me. After a cut a retie we were at it again but the drift DIED!!

Now I have to say I HATE power drifting as the lines ALWAYS get tangled but I have to hand it to joey he has really learned allot and no tangles were caused from the power drift. Now about 2 hours in it we are fishless but EVERY one has at least one so I have to say frustrations was just starting to set in when the scream of a reel was the first clue we were on well I WAS HAHAHAHAHA. Ok a nice fight and a good jaw hook and that fish was MINE!!! I am no longer butless. can I say that??? A great gaff shot from Joey and we had flatty on the boat.

Now a retie and we are back in business but out of drift so we set back up but that drift comes up empty. So what do ya do but set up another one. So after about an hour of this again frustration sets in and S C R E A M Joey is on. Now I have to say that Joey did a perfect job of fighting and when color hit it was a nice hali that was a little drag pearler. Now a perfect head shot from yours truly and we had two on the boat!!! YA.

Ok long story short after another 3 hours the bite was shut off. There was one lastdrift but I was OUT!!! I feel bad as Joey did all the boring stuff but hay he stuck to his guns and went the extra mile. Thanks for that Joey.

Well it was now time to S H A R K and off to anacapa!!! We found the grounds and set up the chum and run out our lines. Well should I tell ya about the MAKO joey hit or the hammer head I hit 2 years running??? or should I say that none of that stuff happened!!! it was dead and after 3 hours it was time to run home.

Final tally is 2 buts mine 16 and Joey's 14 Ya I hit the jack pot and now the post. Well as usually thanks Joey for the great time. You went the extra mile for sure and it was worth it. Hope to do it next year and with out all the pre-trip drama this year brought.

Nice!! Two halibut onboard is not bad at all! Wish the sharks had wanted to cooperate more with you, but maybe next time. Thanks for the great report.

Carnivore,

Good job on the 'buts! Did you grill them up out there on the boat with the lobster? Sounds like a good seafood combo. Where's the pics?
