Belmont 72nd Jetty - 9/7/07 - pics

Hi all,
Fished the jetty from 7:30-9:30pm about 3/4 of the way out. I wished I could have had more daylight but oh well.
At first it didn't look like it was going to be a good outing cuz as I was unloading my gear, I got whacked with some bird shitt.
So I wipe off the crap and off I went.

The views:

So I get to a good spot about 3/4 of the way out and threw out a carolina rigged piece of chovie on 8lb test.
I set it down and proceed to set up a high/low on my other pole. Halfway through my second longliners knot,
I see the first pole do a little dance so I set the hook and reel in this:

It's a short calico with a HUGE gash in the side of it's mouth! I couldn't believe the sucker was living in such condition.
Who knew?? Anyway, I unhook him, give it a little prayer and release him.
Rebaited, cast out and went to finish the other setup.

I cast out the high/low and before it could hit bottom, FISH ON! I reel it in quickly (12lb test) so it doesn't snag and what happens??
SNAGGED! &^*&$*&%. I try my hardest to unsnag it but no matter what I tried, it wouldn't budge.
Freespool, left, right, whatever...didn't work. So I grabbed the line and slowly pulled. SNAP! &^*@#$%
I wonder what I had??

I was pissed. I hate redoing rigs. I HATE it! lol So this time I do another c-rig and cast out.
'Bout 10 mins later, that pole goes bendo and it almost goes into the ocean! I quickly grab it and reel in this:

Sweet! A legal sized Sculpin! Yeah!! The last time I got a sculpin was on a party boat so I was quite pleased with myself.
So while I'm taking some pics, the other pole falls down so I run to it. In doing so, I accidentally whack my line and the fish grazed my ring finger.
At the time it didn't feel like much as I was eager to get to the other pole.
I get to the pole and reel in this:

Another sculpin that was exactly 10". But I already got a nice sized one so I carefully unhook it and toss it back. Rebaited and casted.

Not much happens for a while so while I'm drinking a coke, I notice my finger starts throbbin' a bit.
Oh yeah, I got grazed. It wasn't all that bad..felt like an ant bite really. But never the less,
I start sucking on that part of my finger like my life depended on it! After about 5 minutes of doing so, the throbbing goes away.

Another 20 mins or so it was 9:00 so I decide to call it a night. Packed up, picked up a bunch of trash that was around me and went home.
It was a fun 2 hours but something that really irked me was ALL THE TRASH inbetween the rocks!! Man...what's wrong with some people??

Anyway, tight lines y'all!

Thanks for the report. You got lucky on the prick in the finger. I've seen people blow up from a prick by a sculpin.
