Shelter Island Pier IGFA Kid's Tourney, Sept 29th

Members of UPSAC, (United Pier and Shore Anglers of California) joined with representatives of the IGFA and the San Diego Sportfishing Council on Saturday, September 29 to throw a Kids Fishing Tournament at the Shelter Island Pier in San Diego. The fish were biting, and the kids had a great time pulling in mackerel and bass, along with a few other species. Many of the participants caught their first fish that day.

Hot dogs and drinks were provided for the kids, and the volunteers were treated to some fresh swordfish and white sea bass tacos. Awards and a drawing for gifts came after the tourney.

Winners of the tournament are eligible to go on to the national kids’ tournament in Florida.

A truly exciting highlight of the day came when several magnificent ships of the Pacific Fleet motored by in procession in honor of Fleet Week, along with some dramatic fly-overs.

I'm guessing that the next one probably won't be until next year, but I'll let you know if I hear otherwise. It's a great family event.

Nobody dropped a hoop net overboard? Someone could've got a bug for 1st place!

Actually, I heard that there is a rock pile just off the pier, covering some electrical lines. I bet there were some bugs hanging around there!
