Morro Bay

Headed over to Morro Bay for a Sunday Monday trip. Arrived Sunday late afternoon to some heavy winds. The swell was pushing into the bay pretty hard, and the tow in surfers were having a blast on the south jetty in some pretty decent swell, so we posted up in the back part of the bay for nothing but a spider crab on Sunday. Monday the wind had died down with the swell so we posted up at the entrence to the bay and drifted squid with a stinger hook and a sliding sinker rig. My wife (who I hate to admit it, catches and hooks into more than I do) got into a nice flat fish...which I believe is a starry founder...could be wrong though. Tooks some pics and tossed it back. We drifted the bay, and even fished the mouth of the bay but always keeping our eyes on the swell, we had to hightail it out of there a few times and race the breaking waves, but we kept it safe and had a blast. An hour or two latter and she hooks up to something big....thinking it was a ray as it just hugged the bottom....after about 5 or so minutes it snapped off, but not before I got a pic of the bendo....I was getting pissed as I hadn't even had a hit all day... so damn it i tossed the sabaki rig out and got myself a dine and a smelt....guess its still a skunk for me. The weather was great as we headed in about five. Maybe next time.
