Wow, how did he pull them without a patrol boat or enforcement to "educate" him to the new rules. Must be the boat, kayakers would have been nailed for sure!!

You know everytime I go out of Ventura Harbor I write on my parking ticket the total caught and "No or Yes" if I had seen Harbor Patrol on the water that night.....been out there 7 times and only seen them once. It's kinda put out to us to police the areas ourselves and to inform them...but we have no authority to tell they can't.

You guys are all within your rights to question the legality of what this guy is doing, but no one brought up the issue with his engine. Why in hell would you take a chance in jeopardizing your engine for a few lobsters? Seems pretty stupid to me!

Furthermore why would you put your boat in danger as well? This addiction to hooping has gotten way out of hand! More and more people are putting themselves and their passengers at risk for nothing more than a few lobsters. Frickin ridiculous if you ask me!

PS: Hey look at me! I just made Junior Member!

I was at the ramp on saturday and I didn't see any regulations posted. But then again, since I visit GetBent I already know what the regulations are. I also got visited by the Harbor Patrol out on the water.

I guess truegrit now knows that there is a regulation about how close we can hoop on the outside: 250feet.

Not wishing anyone bad luck out there but it sounds like a few of the boats that are violating this regulation are breaking down. Karma? Or is this a normal number of broke-down and broke-in-half boats for one month?

Honestly don't have a clue what the problem is with the boats breaking down. I hooped the outside most of last year and for the years before it with no problems either with the motor or sand or hitting the wall. Not trying to be a know it all I am just not getting it.

My only reason for saying anything was just as you said Wils is if they have any notices up or not. It can't be legally enforced with out prior notice and not every one that fishes has a computer or visits this site. THOUGH THEY SHOULD LOL!!! I won't bore anyone with the whole make a rule enforce a rule BS.

ok first of all i forgot to post.... If your scared of a ticket fish 250 ft. off the wall! 2nd when we came in we talked to harbor potrol and told him where we were fishing. Did not give a $hit and look im not locked up. Maybe I should go out next weekend with a tape and mesure everyone on the inside and make sure there 15 feet off?

No problems here, truegrit. I have no problems about where or how you were getting your lobsters.

IMO the biggest issue is STILL the non-enforcement of the regulations. They didn't enforce the old regs and they sure as heck aren't enforcing the "new" ones...new ones that were put into place BECAUSE they didn't enforce the old ones. All they seem to be doing is making sure all boats have 100% of Coast Guard required equipment and documentation....except they did leave one item off of their list...and I'll let them figure out that one.

As for being afraid of getting a ticket? Come on. I don't have the time to deal with one. And it would cost me more in lost time than the high improbablity of me catching a limit of lobsters. Besides, I aint got "what it takes" to put my boat "nose in" to the rocks and then backing down into wind-blown swells & chop for the chance of oceanic cockroaches.

Go for it, Good luck, and hopefully you have no more bad luck with your motor. and please don't hesitate to post your reports without the exact locations.

OK OK relax it was only for clarification so please every one just breathe deep and relax. I was wondering if there were any posted rules or not and wanted to make sure no one was calling you out or putting blame in the wrong place that is all.
