Rock Island Hoopin' 1.19.08

With some sage advise from Phishy the crew of RUNNOFT took to the water on Saturday in the quest for flatties and fatties. Both of which remained elusive.

Fished the beaches south of Carp Saturday afternooon looking for flatties until sundown. Not even a raked bait....not a good sign! 30 minutes before the sun hit the pacific, we cranked up the dogs and set our first line of 10 at a spot in the area of Arco. 45 minutes later the first set was pulled and out of the depths came the first legal bug of the year. Unfortunately that was the highlight of the night, as set upon set came up with only crabs. Tied other areas around Arco and even tried a set right up in the commercial junk at the island. Finally headed north around Rincon to finish the night at the stroke of twleve. Final tally 22 crabs and one bug. Made for a nice Sunday meal with the in-laws.

Pictures tell it all.....only in SoCal can you run at 25 knts, shorts and t-shirts in the middle of January!

Joe,

Unfortunatley, we did not find any of the outlaw "Dos Gatos Gordos" traps.

The full moon, no wind, and no current were not working in our favor in terms of the bugs crawlin. But the conditions were prime for beer drinking between sets.

Good times and tasty crabs!!!
