So after last weeks bass-assination Team NBU decided to go out on the Freelance from Davey's Locker - Newport Beach. Although the hope was that we would go over to the island, but Capt. Norris Tapp had informed us that the barries are on the chew!! So, that's what we're gonna do...as always I asked Capt. Norris..."Where ya gonna take us?" As Capt. Norris always does...he rolled his eyes and replied "Where the fish are." Why did I even ask??

Short Story:
Kevin and I limited out by 12pm or so. (I think Kev limited out earlier, I was pacing myself so I won't limit out too early.)
Bob was having a few issues with casting. But he did miraculously land a sheepshead at the end of the day.
It was an awesome day for barries!! Although they may stink a little, slim you up a little, spit blood all over the place...THEM BARRIES SURE ARE LOTTA FUN TO CATCH!!
TEAM NBU!!! YEAH!!!!

Long Story:
5:35am I'm at my local gas station picking up my usual - coffee, donettes, 2 bags of ice and a Vitamin Water - I get a call from him....the self proclaimed legend...k3vin_kim. "Dude...I completely miscalculated how far Davey's (Locker) is from my house. I'll be there in 45 minutes!" I'm thinking...you mean you over-slept, right Mr. Legend?? LOL!!
5:40am As I'm leaving my gas station, I get a call from NBU "Ritual Leader", Bob. "Uh...where are you? I'm already at the landing." I explained the situation and that I'll be there in 12 minutes.
5:52am As I'm coming off the 55 fwy, I notice a Honda Accord with a blue dolphin hanging from the rear view mirror...that's KEVIN!! Once again, I think he OVER-CALCULATED how long it was gonna take him to get there.
6:30am Anyway, we pay, we chat, Bob drops the "kids" off at the pool and we're on the boat. The usual saying hi to familiar faces, setting up gear, breakfast...etc.
Capt. Norris explains to us that we're gonna pick up some bait and go after the barracuda that have been biting right outside the harbor.
As with last week, I decided not to use any bait. I want to practice my artificial skillz~ (jigs, lures, plastics...etc.)
7:30am After bait pick up, we are in the parking lot!! Every boat from everywhere seemed to be there. Dana Pride, Native Sun, Victory....etc.
From here on out, it's pretty much a slay fest. I had a barrie that tried to retaliate!
Kevin killed...
Bob killed...
I killed...but don't have a picture of myself in my camera...(Kev, post it!)
I managed to get (once again) 2nd place for JP. That's #5 for this year alone!!
It's nice to know that at least I'm getting close to JP, but it is frustrating!! GRRRR!
Here's the winner of JP by a difference of 0.5oz!!
But I think the highlight of this trip was when one of the guests on board, who was yo-yo-ing a Tady blue/chrome snagged this...
Yep, that's a Pelagic jacket that was picked up from the bottom of the sea!!
This was not a rescue mission, as in no one from the boat lost it, it was really snagged on the jig and pulled up!! I think that'll go down as one of the rare-est catches of all time!!
