We launched out of Santa Barbara in a 12' aluminum boat, we tried where we saw other boats on a reef (few different spots)and then ended up @ a reef about 200 yds offshore. We were the only boat there all day, with the exception of a few kayakers off of the state beach in the afternoon.
The water was clear and White Seabass could be seen in schools all over the reef. We caught a lot and lost a few due to like breakage.
All of them were caught on Big Hammer swimbaits on light tackle and were released (even the legals). I caught some on 3,4,and 5" lures all of different colors. Color and size didn't seem to matter until the bite turned off in the afternoon.
Hopefully this helps, I'd like to hear what others were catching and how. Every fish I caught I watched take the bait. It was the most fun I have ever had fishing in this country.
