6/21 Threshers no, but ronkys YES!

Met up with Wils around 6am at Ventura and headed north after a short store run. Trolled Rapalas for 4 hours for nothing. No bait in the water to speak of so lures it was. Started at Rincon island with mustered colored water. Several pups were jumping in the area but moms and dads were no where to be found. After a run to carp beach for some kelp working that produced again NOTHING...we headed for a few more trolling runs then off play in more kelp. Below you can see the fleet of boats that were on these fish. Talked to a few and all were reporting nothing so far so I wasn't doing anything wrong.

Worked the beds from surfers point down below Pitas for nothing but more mustered water. We hit the Ventura flats for you guessed it Wils favorite fish. They were hitting here and there but they all wanted to say hi to Wils. I was cited by the SPCA for letting one of them smoke on my boat. I guess a hook is ok but helping him develop lung cancer isn't! all fish were released unharmed except the smoking one, his is now suing me for personal damages.

Was a fun time out anyway but next time there must be blood on the boat even if it is my own. Thanks Bill for a fun time we will slay them soon enough.

Thanks for the ride, carni.

Trip didn't suck. Seeing miniature threshers launch out of the water was enjoyable...funny, actually. Even the porpoise enjoyed a beautiful day on the water.

BTW: Carni caught all the miniature-wsb (he almost caught a full limit) and I refused to take any offer for a "hook-'n-hand"

Good try Wils, We hooked into a nice thresher on saturday around the ArCo Island on a live sardine. Lost the long tail after a short fight with 20lb test!!

saw you out there Carni, I was on the yak with squid pro quo. Same story for us, saw a lot of bait, but the bait wouldn't eat. did manage to hook one, but he broke me off since he hit the halibut rig.

Big one's come in first at the end of May then move on, second wave is the pups with a big one mixed in here or there and the pups are about to move on as well. Of course there will be ocassional T's here or there, but not in mass.
Next run will be at the end of August begining of September.

How do you guys catch those ronkie things? I see the trolling rigs out. Maybe that is what I am doing wrong. I guess I should troll for them. Great pics, looks like epic fishing. One of these days, I'll get my share.

Well that is an awesome boat, you will have to get something soon. To much time on the water not to. Just don't let the negative people SUCK the life out of your fun. Better luck next time and when is my chance to ride??
